CHAD BIO
According to Harry Skoler, Associate Professor/Berklee College of Music, "The intrigue and beauty of Chad's playing defies conventional wisdom."
When up-and-coming saxophonist, Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, first started playing saxophone he would practice right after waking up sometime around noon. His home schooling days, which spanned from kindergarten until seventh grade, allowed him to live on a jazz musicians schedule at a very early age. At age ten, Chad won his first DownBeat Student Music Award, and since then he has won twelve more in numerous categories, including Best High School Jazz Soloist and Best College Group, for his work in The Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet.
While in high school, Chad was one of two tenor saxophonists from North America selected to the 2008 Gibson/Baldwin GRAMMY High School Jazz Ensemble, The Next Generation Jazz Orchestra, and The Jazz Band of America. In addition to performing in these prestigious groups, he studied at exclusive summer programs including the Vail Jazz Workshop and Brubeck Summer Colony, a program for which he was a faculty member this past summer along with Brian Lynch, Ray Drummond and several other jazz masters. Through the Brubeck Fellowship Program, Chad has had the opportunity to work with many jazz icons, including Jeff Ballard, Geoffrey Keezer, and Nicholas Payton. Through various performing scenarios, Chad has shared the stage with some of the most influential names in jazz including McCoy Tyner, Dave Brubeck, Christian McBride, and Phil Woods. He has performed at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Dizzy's Club Coca Cola NYC, Blues Alley, The North Sea Jazz Festival, The Monterey Jazz Festival, The JEN Conference, and The Detroit International Jazz Festival. An experienced composer, Chad was recently one of twelve musicians from around the world accepted to the Dave Douglas Workshop for Creative Composition and Improvisation at Carnegie Hall, where he performed in February for the Carnegie Hall Young Artists Concert at the culmination of the program.
